Resolution & UMA

How a market settles, what the UMA banner means, and why “resolved” isn't always final.

How settlement works

  1. The event concludes (clock hits zero, or the real-world deadline passes).
  2. A resolution is proposed to UMA's optimistic oracle.
  3. A liveness/challenge window opens — anyone can dispute the proposed answer.
  4. If unchallenged, it finalizes. If disputed, it goes to a UMA DVM token-holder vote.
  5. Winning shares redeem at $1.00, losing shares at $0.00.

The UMA status banner

On any market past its event, a status banner appears at the top of the chart:

StatusMeaning
Resolution ProposedAn answer is asserted, challenge window open — still tradeable, can still change.
Under DisputeThe proposal was challenged; headed to a UMA DVM vote.
ResolvedFinalized and immutable. Winners can redeem.
Gamma flips a market to “resolved” the moment an answer is proposed, while trading is still open. Hexio treats that as Resolution Proposed — a market that is still activeis never shown as finally resolved, so you're not misled into thinking a tradeable position is locked.

Trading during the challenge window

The CLOB usually keeps accepting orders during liveness. Prices pin near $1.00 / $0.00 once the outcome is obvious, but the position is not redeemable until the status is truly Resolved. The header also shows a green Resolved · <winner>chip once an outcome is decisive (≥98¢) and the event has ended, so you can see the result at a glance even while the oracle finishes.

Redemption

After final resolution, winning positions auto-redeem; you can also redeem manually from the Positions tab. Redemption is on-chain and free of platform fees. See Positions & history.
